The Best Online Golf Competition Invented to Date

Back in late 1999 and 2000, we invented and launched an online golf game that was that was unlike anything available on the "net" at the time, and is still viewed by many as state-of-the-art compared to what is currently available.

It was a skills-based online golf competiton that had both "free" and "pay to play" elements. Unfortunately, the company that hosted the tournament went belly-up in the dot com crash. The competition and the software had been collecting dust ever since.

While it was up, we were able to conduct one competition and were able to crown four winners who were able to fly to Covered Bridge Golf Club (Fuzzy's home course) and tee it up with Fuzzy himself. They were also able to compete in Fuzzy's charity event, "The Wolf Challenge."

We kept emails from people asking us when we were going to re-launch the competition.

Well guess what?

We are looking at a re-launch of a redesigned version around April of '05 with lots of improvements and new features.

Below are some examples of what version "1" of GreatShot.com looked like. Version "2" will look even better.

The graphics in the game were (and are) unbelievable, and the variables that the player encountered are still unmatched. These pictures give you a feel for the quality of the images. The game required 417 programs, which should attest to its complexity.

The winds would change in direction and in strength, and you had the ability to draw or fade the ball based upon stance and point of impact. You could hit a straight ball by cutting a shot into a right to left wind, or by drawing a shot into a left to right wind.

Very fun and realistic...

Once your shot approached the green, a drop down window appeared that showed your ball land and roll to the flag. If you hit a shot within two feet of the pin, you qualified for the online finals, which was a closest to the pin competition.

Winners of onling golf game The pictures you see to the right is the foursome that won the online competition. They were able to play in Fuzzy's charity event, "The Wolf Challenge," as well as play a warm up round with Fuzzy himself. These folks had a blast, and needless to say continue to email us asking when we are going to get the online competition up and running again.

We are currently reworking the competition and the software. We are also creating a business model that will allow the competition to be used as a fundraising vehicle for hospitals, charities, college sports programs, and more.

Besides teeing it up in the tournament and playing with Fuzzy, the winners each attempted a hole in one for $1,000,000 in front of the assembled gallery of 5,000 people. (The picture to the right is a GreatShot.com finalist getting ready to attempt his $1,000,000 with the assistance of Fuzzy.)

While we didn't give away the money, I can report that these qualifiers had a priceless time experiencing something that most can only dream of.
