current Golf World Ranking?

Currently, it is Tiger Woods.

The Golf World Ranking formula takes into account the past two years of performance, with the majors receiving a heavier weighting, and the weighting of wins diminishing as time passes.

To me, a more interesting topic is the following:

Who is the best
professional golfer in the modern era?"

Right now, common debate pits Tiger against his idol, "The Golden Bear."

Most feel that Tiger would blow past Nicklaus in terms of majors won, tournaments won, etc.

I have created a formula that will go back in time and will rank players of todays era with players of the past. Players like Snead, Hogan, Nelson, Palmer, Player and Nicklaus will be compared against Tiger, Vijay, Els and Mickelson.

Well, we have done it. It is the most extensive listing of PGA TOUR earnings in the entire world.

I am interested in some of the following points...

What player has won the highest percentage of the purses available to them while competing?

Is Vijay winning over $10 million one of the most impressive seasons compared to others of the past?

Is the "all-time earnings" ranking that The PGA TOUR uses an accurate measurement of a player's performance over the course of their career?

Are there professionals from the past that haven't received their due respect for their career accomplishments?

I will let you in on a secret. Some of the most dominant performances were by golf professionals who aren't household names.
