The Masters Golf Tournament

The front of the Augusta National Clubhouse

Of all of the golf events I have been able to attend personally, in my opinion there is nothing quite like the Masters Golf Tournament. People ask what qualifies a tournament to be considered a “major.” Tradition, history, as well as other factors certainly play into the mix. For the Masters Tournament, an additional ingredient is present, and that is the golf course itself, Augusta National. Think about it. Of the four majors on The PGA TOUR, only the Masters Tournament is played on the same golf course year after year.

The first time I saw Augusta National in person was 1996. This is while I was still working in the investment business, and had not yet started Fuzzy Zoeller Productions. I drove down with my good friend, Phil Alicea. Our tickets were given to me by a client of mine. Our first site of the course was as we walked directly into “Amen Corner.” It is amazing how tranquil the place is.

The roads around Augusta National are heavily traveled, but once you walk on the course, it’s as if you have walked into another world. Not one weed, huge trees of all types, and set before you are the holes that you have seen hundreds of times on television while watching Nicklaus, Watson, Sarazen, Hogan, Crenshaw, Faldo, Zoeller and others secure their place in golf history by winning the green jacket.

Once I began Fuzzy Zoeller Productions in late 1996, I have been fortunate to attend the Masters each year with Fuzzy. Typically, I fly down with him for the practice rounds and head back to Indiana Wednesday evening after the par three tournament. Through this section of the website, I will do my best to share with you some of the special memories and experiences I have been able to live out first hand via my trips to Augusta National Golf Club with Fuzzy.
