A Dream of All Golfers is to
Play Augusta National

Dave with his caddy for the day, Ian.

As I have mentioned in other areas of golfmyway.com, one of the fringe benefits of my occupation is living out experiences in the world of golf that most can only dream of. Well, I hit the “mother load” when we received an invitation from Ben Crenshaw’s agent (Scott Sayers) to have Fuzzy and I join them and play Augusta National on the Sunday before The Masters. Hootie Johnson, the chairman of The Masters, decided to invite past Masters Champions and give them the opportunity to bring a guest and play Augusta National on the Sunday prior to The Masters.

Most people don’t know this, but if you win The Masters, you are given a lifetime exemption to play in the tournament, as will as an “honorary membership” to Augusta National. This membership is not a full fledged membership. If a past champion wanted to play Augusta National, he would still need to be accompanied by a member of Augusta National. Hootie’s invitation waived that rule, which is why we were able to play as a foursome.

I was flattered to say the least, and nervous.

I will include some pictures of my day with Fuzzy, Ben and Scott. We played the golf course from the back of each back tee. We guessed it was playing about 7,350 yards. We were also dealing with a gusting wind that would top out at 30 mph. I got to see all of Augusta National.

You can’t believe how fast those greens are. In fact, both Fuzzy and Ben stated that the greens that day were as fast as they had ever seen them. They were actually a bit slower for the tournament, if you can believe that.
